Why SUP Training?

Stand-up Paddling is getting very popular and many are attracted to the novelty of being able to stand up and paddle on a board. Many people think of Stand-up Paddling as an upper body work-out. But according to Cedric Bryant, the president and Chief Science Officer at the American Council on Exercise, stand-up paddling is a combo work-out that challenge your balance and stability, and develop muscles’ strength and endurance all over the body.  Experienced paddlers who have acquired the skills to go faster and longer distance, tend to get more full-body workout and greater cardio benefits.
People with some sea-sports exposure, like kayaking or dragon-boating may think that the paddling techniques are similar on a SUP board. The truth is that there are differences paddling standing up or seated down, with the paddle blades designed differently for each sport.
Do consider some of these reasons why it is essential to get proper coaching:
  1. Think Safety. There are risks associated with any water-based sports. It is critical to be able to perform self-rescues, being able to fall off and climb back on the board correctly and to be able to identify hazards with the environment while paddling.
  2. Protect yourself from Injury cause by improper paddling techniques. There are many sport injuries that could have been prevented if correct techniques have been applied. Having a qualified instructor will ensure that you learn the correct technique to provide you with greater efficiency in paddling.
  3. Paddling may look easy, but once you start to delve into it, you will realise that it is not as simple as it seems. For people who begin to paddle as a form of cardio training, efficient paddling stroke is essential. Learning the proper technique at the on-set of learning stand-up paddling, will save you the trouble of unlearning and relearning proper techniques.
