Imagine getting your children out at sea, each on a Standup Paddle Board. The excitement is about standing up to paddle. As your child attempts to stand up, he loses his balance and fall into the water. You noted the difficulty he has, climbing back on board. You believe you will need to encourage him, so you cheer him on. He makes a few more attempts, and each time, he fall into the water. What will you do now? My suggestion is not to do or say anything that will dampen his spirit of resilience. You child will also be looking out at you; - Did you try standing up and did you succeed? How will you handle failure?

Learning a sport as a family, is about tapping into the unknown potential of each individual. The courage to try new thing build confidence, the courage to overcome failures, build our mental resilience. It is about doing it together as a family, keeping a lookout for each other, and modelling confidence and mental resilience in a real environment that will leave a deep impression on our family.
