Belbin’s Team Roles

“A team is not a bunch of people with job titles, but a congregation of individuals, each of whom has a role which is understood by other members. Members of a team seek out certain roles and they perform most effectively in the ones that are most natural to them.”
Dr. R. M. Belbin

Belbin Team Roles are used to identify people's behavioral strengths and weaknesses in the workplace. This information can be used to:

  • Build productive working relationships
  • Select and develop high-performing teams
  • Raise self-awareness and personal effectiveness
  • Build mutual trust and understanding
  • Aid recruitment processes

The introduction to Belbin’s Team Roles will help participants appreciate the role dynamic that happens within teams and discover why teams succeed or fail.

Participants will first be brought through a basic understanding of the 9 team roles as postulated by Belbin, and then through a series of activities and observer sharing, begin to discover each member’s working style and contribution to the team.

All participants will take the Belbin’s Team Roles online assessment prior to the teambuilding session. The tool also includes 4 observer assessments to provide 360 feedbacks to compare the individual’s assessment to how others see him or her. Results will be generated and distributed to each participant for a more detailed understanding of each person’s style.
